What is the difference between TVOC and VOC?
For homogeneous vinyl flooring & conductive ESD tiles, we often mention a parameter TVOC T for vinyl floor after 28 days. The test result<10μg/m3 follows the standard ISO16000-3.
Total volatile organic compounds are represented by TVOC, which is the abbreviation of total volatile organic compounds. TVOC refers to the analysis of known and unknown volatile organic compounds with a retention time between n-hexane and n-hexadecane using a non-polar gas chromatography column.
The definition seems a little difficult to understand. Now Haoflor will show you some characteristics of TVOC.
Indoor TVOC is mainly emitted by building materials, interior decoration materials, and living and office supplies. Such as wood-based panels, foam insulation materials, plastic panels in building materials, paints, coatings, adhesives, wallpapers, carpets in interior decoration materials, cosmetics and detergents used in daily life, and office supplies to inks and copiers, typewriters, etc. In the indoor air pollution caused by indoor decoration materials, TVOC is a widespread pollutant that is harmful to the human body. Its characteristics are various types, complex ingredients, long-term low-dose release, and greater harm to the human body. Its release is mainly caused by solvent-based coatings containing a large number of organic solvents and various board adhesives used in home decoration.
Volatile organic compounds are represented by VOC, which is the abbreviation of the volatile organic compound. VOC refers to a compound whose boiling point is between (50-100)°C and (240-260)°C.
VOC refers to the volatile organic compounds in the air, including aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzene and benzene series and some aliphatic hydrocarbons.
It is generally believed that the normal, non-industrial indoor environment VOC content will not cause tumours and cancers in the human body. When the VOC content is (3.0~25) mg/m3, it will cause irritation and discomfort; when combined with other factors, headache may occur; when the VOC content is greater than 25mg/m3, other neurotoxic effects may occur besides a headache.
Current studies have shown that VOC can cause an imbalance of the body’s immune level, affect the function of the central nervous system, and cause dizziness, headache, drowsiness, weakness, chest tightness, and other conscious symptoms; it may also affect the digestive system, causing loss of appetite, nausea, etc., and can damage the liver in severe cases. And the hematopoietic system, allergic reactions, and so on.
In the GB 50 325-2001 “Code for Indoor Environmental Pollution Control of Civil Construction Engineering” promulgated by the state, the content of TVOC in indoor air has become an important item for evaluating whether the indoor air quality of a room is qualified. The TVOC content specified in this standard is Class I civil construction projects: 0.5 mg/m3, and Class II civil construction projects: 0.6 mg/m3.
In addition, GB/T 18883-2002 “Indoor Air Quality Standard” stipulates that the limit of TVOC in indoor air is 0.6 mg/m3
To prevent TVOC damage, we mainly start from the source and eliminate non-environmental building materials, we HAOFLOR care about your health. Our Homogeneous Vinyl Floor can ensure indoor air quality: TVOC emissions <10µg/m3 after 28 days, it is the better choice.
